Making Your Own Beaded Jewelry

Beading Jewelry is a Fun Hobby!

Are you looking for a new hobby? Do you want to try something new? Why not try making your own beaded jewelry? You can make something to add to your jewelry collection or to give to a loved one. The great thing is you can design it however you want! This can be pretty easy to do since you can come up with the type of jewelry you want to make (such as necklaces, bracelets, and rings), and what design you want to use (such as the patterns, colors, and whether or not you will use charms). I personally enjoy beading myself, and I love to make something new to wear! So to help you get into this fun hobby, here are a few tips for getting started on beading your own jewelry.

The first thing you will need to do is get the supplies you will need. The basic supplies include the beads, charms (if you want to use any), and of course the string or wire. Beads come in many colors, sizes, and shapes. There are many different types of string and wire to use, but I would personally recommend elastic string. Elastic string will fit just about anyone comfortably, and does come in a few different colors. You may decide to look at the different type of jewelry clasps (such as the lobster claw or magnetic) or tie the jewelry closed yourself. You may even buy a pack of clasps and only use it for a few projects, while tying the jewelry closed for other projects. You may decide to look for a beading board, which will help you with laying out the beads and measuring. You can find supplies you need (and more) in local bead shops, craft stores, toy stores (there is nothing wrong with buying a kit from the craft aisle), and stores such as Wal-Mart for reasonable prices. You may even find them in packaged starter kits and craft kits (even beading kits for children will work). Another idea is to check out beading books from the library, or buy a few to add to your supplies. There are different books for beginners, as well as books with different ideas to try out. Do not forget to get a container, tote bag, crate, or storage tub to keep everything in.

Once you have the supplies you need, you should start off with a simple project. A simple jewelry project can include a necklace or bracelet. Rather than using expensive or fancy beads and charms for your first project, start off with using a few simple beads (such as pony beads or alphabet beads). You can keep practicing and learn how to make fancier looking jewelry later on.

If it is possible, you should set up a space for beading. This may be an un-used room or a desk in the corner of your room, living room, or basement. The area can include a table or desk, storage area, and a well-lit lamp to help you see what you are doing. If you cannot create your own beading space, then storing your beads in one area and working at another desk or table will work as well. You want to always be sure to protect your space and supplies from your curious children and pets. However, if your children are old enough, you can introduce them to this fun hobby as well.

There you go, a few tips for getting start on making your own beaded jewelry. Once you have your supplies, space, and your project picked out, you can get started on creating your own beaded jewelry (which you can find the directions to by clicking here). Before you know it, you will be an expert at the hobby you are only just getting started on today. Have a great time making beaded jewelry for your loved ones and yourself!
